Overview

This paper will allow you to explore how the psychological concepts and theories learned thus far in this class can be applied to your own life. The purpose of this paper is to assess your knowledge and demonstrate your ability to apply to real life situations.
Assignment

Both of the following items should be addressed in your paper:
Part A – Parenting Style Reflection
Reflect on the parenting style(s) used by your parents (or guardians).
How would you characterize their parenting style using Baumrind’s labels?
How have their specific parenting techniques changed over the course of your childhood through adolescence?
In what ways do you think your parenting style, or any other aspect of your parenting, will be influenced by your parents (or guardians), your cultural background or other experiences?
Describe at least two specific aspects of parenting, providing documentation from the text or lecture as to why your parents (or guardians) might have had an impact on your development. (Note the two aspects can be taken from the parenting styles or any other information discussed in your text that emphasizes parental influence on child development.)
Part B – Theory application on yourself
Reflect upon yourself. We have learned that there are five primary pathways of development: (1) physical development, (2) cognitive development, (3) social development, (4) emotional development and (5) moral development? Describe your development in at least four of the five pathways by applying appropriate psychological theories and/or concepts related to each pathway.
Be sure to explicitly state each pathway and its associated psychological theory or concept.
Highlight the key terms, concepts and/or theories within your paper (i.e., place in bold such as Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development or highlight such as Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development).
Note: DO NOT use the same theory for two or more of the pathways. For example if Vygotsky’s theory is used for the cognitive pathway then it may not also be used for the social pathway.
Stating and defining the pathway alone is not sufficient. You must link to and apply specific theories or concepts discussed in the textbook.
Note: This section of your paper is separate from Part A – parenting style reflection.
Note: When discussing the pathways, be sure to pull in relevant and specific developmental psychology theory and/or concepts. For example, when discussing the moral pathway, you could incorporate Piaget’s Theory on Moral Development, Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development, Gilligan’s Theory of Moral Development, and/or the Stages of Faith. Another example for the physical pathway, you could incorporate a discussion on puberty, nutrition, motor skills, etc.
Resources

The CURRENT textbook will serve as the primary resource for this assignment. Include a minimum of 10 in-text citations from the CURRENT textbook, integrating specific concepts, facts, or other relevant information that relate and support your application.
Other academically sound sources may be incorporated as needed and are optional, but would be considered in addition to the textbook in-text citation requirement, not replacing them.
Suggested Structure

Again, you do not choose between part A and B, the paper should include both. By listing as part A and part B, there was an attempt to try to distinguish that the analyses were separate from each other. To assist you in structuring your paper and ensuring that all aspects are covered, I would suggest using headers and sub-headers in your paper. Remember in APA format headers and sub-headers flow within the text, they are NOT on separate pages. Below is and example:

Physical Development
